Migrant Women’s Coordinating Body Presents: Educational Part 1
“Migrant Women in Solidarity Against Imperialism: The Struggles of
Women Here and Abroad”

Since 2007, we, the member organizations of Migrante, Gabriela-
Ontario, Justicia for Migrant Workers, Canadian HART, BASICS,
Thorncliffe Neighborhood Office along with other migrant worker
organizations, women of colour and allies, have gathered as the
Migrant Women’s Coordinating Body for IWD to celebrate the
International Women’s Day together.

Our objective is to build a more visible anti-imperialist migrant
women’s contingent at this year’s International Women’s Day events. It
is very important for us to increase our visibility as migrant women
as we bring forward our own issues and struggles as well as join in
the struggle of Canadian women. Like our Canadian sisters, our issues
as migrant women include violence and abuse, right to status, war and
occupation and systemic repression. As migrant women, we are faced in
particular with racism, insecurity in our work and precarious
temporary status in Canada.

Our first forum for this year will be focusing on National Liberation/
International Women’s Struggles.

Date: Sunday, January 24, 2010
Time: 1:00pm – 5:00pm
Location: Ontario Institute for Studies in Education/University of
Toronto: ROOM 2211
Street: 252 Bloor Street West, Toronto, ON

The forum includes the public screening of the film Samjana, a film by
Shahrzad Arshadi, a Nepali documentary & speakers from Gabriela, The
Afghani and Iranian Youth Network, Justicia for Migrant Workers, &
Canadian HART.

We are inviting members of the diverse community to join our struggle
here in the diaspora of Toronto and beyond.

Join us as we look at the past, the present situation and possible
positive steps to the future. Please be on a look out for our next
public forum, which will be on February 21, 2010 and cultural
celebration of International Women’s Day in the coming months.
